SPOTLIGHT: STAGING HISTORY AT THE MAYFIELD DINNER THEATRE

About Spotlight: Staging History at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre.

Spotlight is a research project facilitated by the pilot Edmonton Research Project, which examines all aspects of popular culture and popular literature in Edmonton. All research was carried out in conjunction with the Mayfield Inn & Suites. Spotlight is maintained using the Streetprint engine, which has been customized to record and present this research concerning popular culture and make it widely available and accessible.

This project is currently under development and will include a second phase – a website independent of the Streetprint engine. The second website will include digital photographs and will showcase and explain what the Mayfield Dinner Theatre is and how it operates.

When it comes to Performing Arts, Dinner Theatre is considered to be at the low end of the culturally relavent spectrum. However, by navigating through the preformance information provided in Spotlight, we can come to understand that the Mayfield Dinner Theatre is a noteworthy example of a vibrant and ever changing facet of Popular Culture in Edmonton’s society.

DIGITIZATION PROCEDURES

Almost all of the artifacts in Spotlight were scanned “on site” using portable CRC studio equipment. Some playbill images were photographed using digital cameras before being prepared for publication.

All images were prepared for publication using photoshop.
